East Quay Patient Group asked fellow patients at the Practice what they think about getting more health services in Bridgwater.
The Group meet regularly to hear about developments in the Practice and the wider NHS, as well as providing feedback on patients’ experience of the Health Service, the results of surveys, and bringing forward complaints and compliments.
The Group believes that a major issue for patients in Bridgwater is the need to travel to Taunton to be seen in hospital for outpatients and a range of other services and treatments. So, the Group’s survey gave patients the opportunity to respond on where they think such treatments and services could be most easily accessed.
East Quay Practice Manager, Rachel Stark, said “The Group know that the cost of travelling to Taunton would be unaffordable for some patients, whilst others would have difficulty in arranging transport. Some patients actually find the journey and the time it takes too uncomfortable or they are too ill or frail. The Group also agree with the current government policy that most patients prefer to be seen locally where possible. The Group’s survey could help drive change by determining whether more health services should be locally accessible.”
The suvery ran in the surgery during the week of 1st August 2011. The group met again in October to review the results. See below for more details.
