East Quay Medical Centre

National summary care record withdrawn What is means for you

In Autumn 2009 all patients at East Quay Medical Centre were offered the choice to have some of their medical details uploaded to their national ‘summary care record’ (SCR). The upload of records was due to happen in 2009 but this was delayed.

However, since then the scheme has been changed. Now only those areas who started the process will actually upload the records. Therefore this does change the benefits of having a SCR. As it is no longer a national scheme, hospitals may not access the database as readily as most patients won't have a record.

Our upload was due in Spring 2011 but we have asked the PCT to delay this and ask that they ensure that our patients understand the changes and so have the oppotunity to review their decision in light of these changes.

We take being a guardian of your information very seriously. Whilst we understand that some people may want a record as soon as possible and thus our request to delay the upload prevents this, we feel that our decision to delay the upload and ask for more patient education is the right thing to do.

So, for the moment, if you want your record to be uploaded if and when we do go ahead you do not need to do anything – your record will be automatically uploaded at that time. If you do NOT want your record to be uploaded you must tell us in writing.

In the meantime, if you do want your list of medications and allergies (this is the information being uploaded to the SCR), please contact the surgery and we will be happy to provide a hard copy of this.
