New Text Messaging Service - September 2011

We are about to start a trial of text messaging software. Using the software we can send reminders to patients with mobiles – for example flu clinic dates and so on.

We won’t be using it for sensitive things or even include the patient names. Nor shall we use it to remind patients about appointments etc.

Before we start, if you have a mobile number on your medical record you will get a message asking you to confirm if you are happy to be texted. If you say no, you won’t get any more texts.

The trial is for three months. For the first test we plan to do some flu reminders (in addition to, rather than replacing our methods).

We will be discussing the pilot with the patient group throughout and welcome all feedback from our patients on the new service.
